Media Release: Coal Australia Hits the Court with Maitland Mustangs for Heritage Round
Coal Australia CEO, Stuart Bocking visited the Maitland Federation Centre’s courts, where he was joined by Local Federal MP for Paterson, Meryl Swanson who is a passionate supporter of the Mustangs.
“As a grassroots organisation that is very active in coal mining communities, Coal Australia looks forward to an ongoing partnership with one of the fastest growing sports in the country”, Mr Bocking said.
“It was great to visit the home of the Maitland Mustangs and see firsthand the positive impact this team is having locally by supporting the next generation of Hunter locals, both on and off the court.”
Mr Bocking took the opportunity to congratulate Ms Swanson on her re-election, and they also discussed the significance of the Mustangs to the broader Maitland community.
“The Maitland Mustangs represent the best of our community—teamwork, dedication, and pride,” said MP Meryl Swanson. “I’m grateful for Coal Australia’s support in helping foster local talent and bringing our region together.”
The Maitland Mustangs have a proud history in the Hunter, with the club officially adopting its name in 1984 - the same year it welcomed its first US import player and began competing in New South Wales representative competitions.
A major milestone came in 2001 with the opening of the Maitland Federation Centre, now the home of the Maitland Basketball Association and the Mustangs, which was officially inaugurated by then Prime Minister, the Hon. John Howard.
The Maitland Mustangs’ Heritage Round gets underway at the Maitland Federation Centre this Sunday from 1pm, with the women’s team set to tip off against the Norths Bears, followed by the men’s game at 3pm.
Coal Australia is proud to stand alongside the Maitland Mustangs and wishes the team every success as the players prepare for Heritage Round.
