Media Release: Coal Australia appoints Stuart Bocking as Chief Executive Officer

Mr Bocking brings extensive experience to Coal Australia with more than 30 years working in media, government and law. Mr Bocking was previously a media professional, working in radio and television, before becoming a senior advisor in the NSW government and then the resources sector. Most recently he was a lawyer for key government departments and agencies.

Coal Australia Chairman, Nick Jorss, said he was delighted to welcome Stuart Bocking to the organisation, and looks forward to working with him to promote the importance of the coal mining industry, across Australia.

“As a new advocacy group, focussed on supporting coal mining communities, its workers, and businesses, Stuart brings the precise skillset the Coal Australia Board has been looking for.

“Our ‘Friends of Coal’ community has already recruited more than 20,000 members, and is rapidly growing. Coal Australia will be a tireless advocate for Australia’s coal communities, to promote the role that Australian coal plays in strengthening the national economy, in meeting global demand, and in bringing down power costs. Stuart will be vital in communicating that message to all Australians,” Mr Jorss said.

Mr Bocking’s appointment as Coal Australia CEO will help to consolidate and build upon our existing base of members and supporters, as well as driving community and political engagement across coal mining communities, as well as those who rely on the benefits that flow from our world leading industry, Mr Jorss said.

Coal Australia CEO Stuart Bocking said his recent experience as a lawyer, and his work with coal producers and their workers at the most senior levels of government, gave him a unique insight into the challenges and opportunities that exist for the coal sector.

“I have been a vocal supporter of coal mining communities and the prosperity they bring to the regions of NSW and Queensland, and my new role is the perfect opportunity to continue that advocacy.”

“The coal mining workforce is a skilled, diverse, and flexible one that is driving prosperity, energy security, and manufacturing, both in the regions and in our capital cities. The sector can feel proud about that,” Mr Bocking said.

Coal Australia’s membership includes Whitehaven Coal, New Hope Group, Stanmore Resources, Kestrel Coal, Bowen Coking Coal, QMetco Limited, Peabody Energy and Yancoal.

Stuart Bocking’s appointment as Coal Australia CEO is effective immediately.
